More than 100 years old Storz connector
The Storz connector is a rarer connector that was invented and patented in the late 19th century. The connector was originally designed for use in German firefighting equipment, but over the years it has also spread to European firefighting equipment and industrial use. According to the hose master's personal opinion, the Storz connector should be more commonly used.
The most common material for the Storz connector is light aluminum. In addition, there are versions of the connector made of brass or acid-resistant steel. There are practically two qualitatively different options for the aluminum version, which are completely compatible with each other. The version designed for industrial use is stronger in structure and therefore more expensive.
Storz is a practical nail clip whose size is determined by measuring the nail gap. There are a few sizes in use in Finland, but there are several different sizes in Europe. With the help of a claw spacer, it is possible to avoid the wrong connection of different hoses, and still stay in the same connector. In the Storz connector, the claws are structurally inside the outer ring, which protects them when the hose is dropped or dragged. In addition, the outer ring withstands bumps without jeopardizing the safety of the connector.
In this connector, the male and female parts are the same, so you can always connect the hose in the right direction. When connecting the connector, you always need a Storz key to connect the connectors. On the other hand, the Storz connector is very reliable and secure. However, it should be noted that there are also low-quality Storz connectors on the market, which can pose a safety risk. Storz is a very efficient and safe connector for water and pumps used to transfer water. Many consider this connector to be technically better than, for example, the Finnish fire connector. In the large size, the connection is made with a key, which makes it always safe, because only a little muscle power is needed to connect. We recommend this connector.
