To choose the right cooling water hose, the choice is made taking into account the inner diameter of the hose and the installation conditions. The efficiency of the engine's cooling water system is a key factor in terms of engine performance. The water hoses are an important part of the radiator system, as they transfer the cooling liquid between the engine and the radiator. This presentation covers two common water hose materials: EPDM and silicone.
EPDM rubber is an abbreviation of Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer. This material is flexible and very durable, making it an ideal choice for making rubber water hoses. EPDM rubber hoses are highly resistant to chemicals, high temperatures, UV radiation and weather fluctuations. They are also easy to install and have good tensile strength. EPDM hoses are an excellent choice for glycol water when using coolant.
Silicone water hoses are very resistant to high temperatures, making them ideal for the engine cooling system. They are highly flexible, corrosion resistant and UV resistant. Their chemical resistance is good, but slightly weaker than with EPDM rubber. Silicone water hoses also have different color options, which enables the desired appearance or extreme temperature resistance in the engine.
It is important to remember that not all black hose is EPDM rubber. Epdm rubber hoses can easily be mixed with NBR fuel hoses, which should not be used in coolant. NBR rubber hoses can dissolve the hose in the cooling water system, which causes the cooling liquid to darken. Epdm hoses should also not be used for fuel. It should always be noted that there are several different hose materials and their purpose of use varies.
In summary, it can be stated that both EPDM and silicone water hoses are very durable and functional materials in the manufacture of rubber water hoses. EPDM is a slightly more common and cheaper material that offers good chemical resistance, UV and weather resistance, and high tensile strength. Silicone water hoses, on the other hand, are very resistant to high temperatures and withstand corrosion well. Choosing the right hose depends on the intended use.
