Anatomy of fire hoses

Fire hose is a high-pressure hose that carries water or another suitable substance, such as foam, to extinguish a fire. It is attached to, for example, a fire engine, a water pump or the building's water supply system. The fire hoses are very easy to use, because they only need to be attached to the water supply point and open the nozzle, after which they are ready for use.

Fire hoses are usually flat so that they can be stored easily and minimize space requirements. They consist of one or more layers of fabric impregnated with rubber, for example EPDM rubber or PVC. During transport, the hoses are mainly packed in hose reels

The normal operating pressure of a fire hose usually varies between 8-20 bar, but the pressure must increase to 70 bar before the hose cracks. Firefighting situations demand a lot from the hoses, as they drag along the ground and may bump into sharp corners, but also come into contact with oil or chemicals. However, fire hoses are designed to withstand abrasion and UV light. If there are holes in them, for example from sharp stones or a barbed wire fence, quick fixes are available.

There are different sizes of fire hoses, and different diameters in the hoses are suitable for different purposes. In extinguishing, 39-42 mm hoses are used as so-called work hoses. 76 mm and 110 mm hoses are used in the main water line or for arranging additional water. 150 mm hoses are also used to organize additional water. In the largest sizes, 110 mm and 150 mm, the hoses have the advantage of transporting a large amount of water, but they cannot withstand high pressure. Smaller hoses are often easier to handle, but their resistance to friction is weaker.

Fire hose connectors are often made of brass or aluminum. Our hose masters will help you with all questions related to fire hoses quickly in the chat. You can also directly leave a request for a quote for a specific product from the product's own page with additional questions.
