With the power of a pasta box
The birth story of a measuring hose may not be the most common birth story of a company, but at least it’s interesting. Our story originated from a garage in Porvoo and a box of pasta.
Just over 12 years ago, our owner Toni decided to realize his long-standing dream of changing the industry and decided to realize it in the form of entrepreneurship. The dark suit, the white collared shirt and the always stylish tie no longer felt like their own. The days as an export manager at an international freight forwarding company had begun to lose their luster, and for years the sound like a siren to attract entrepreneurship was even louder.
“I started researching alternatives and looking for a viable business where the owner wanted a successor to his life’s work. I was especially interested in companies at the time where the previous owner would be willing to train me for all the roles. The company could have been a café, but the first one - and perhaps dictated by fate - was hit by this hose company. ”
At that time, the front company of Mittaletku, which operated under the name Paineilmapalvelu Saari, was found on a website that sells companies, and it didn't take long for the then owner and future owner to sit in the Porvoo company's garage popping anything other than a box of pasta. The worlds of thought of both coincided perfectly, and soon the plan for a change of ownership was complete.
“I understood right from the start that it was important for the old owner to know that the business would remain in good hands. For myself, I’m looking for a job that I enjoy and get bread for my family. They are still things that I consider important and they have come true, ”says Toni understandingly.
With family to Porvoo
In connection with the change of ownership, the company's name changed from Porvoon to Mittaletku, and the former owner became Toni's teacher in accordance with wishes. It was worth its weight in gold to be able to learn the master's teachings before the responsibilities of a small entrepreneur were completely on one's own shoulders. "Furthermore, I give great credit to my spouse at the time and to the children, who were really understanding about the change. At that time, we had just settled down to live in a brand new self-built detached house in Ryttylä, Hausjärvi, from which we changed to Porvoose by joint decision with the acquisition of the company".
Although there was a lot of work in the beginning and new things were constantly learned, with the help of an open mind and the dream of entrepreneurship, the company and the new owner continued to develop. Even then, the genuine help of customers brought pleasure and the necessary feelings of success in the early stages. Even today, those same things act as a driving force behind Measuring Hose - solving the needs of our customers in the online store, at the office and by phone also gives us a lot.
“It has been interesting to see during these years how e-commerce, for example, has changed operations. Before, there could be a dozen customers in the office in the morning waiting for the doors to open. Now, in the era of e-commerce, these same customers are waiting for us on digital channels, social media, e-commerce and e-mail, ”says Toni.
From spare parts to assemblies
The measuring hose has evolved from the so-called spare parts sales in the initial phase to solve customers' large production line entities. This has been helped by the fact that from the very beginning you have wanted to know your own products and their full potential.
Today, the company's experts are also involved in designing service and maintenance concepts for production lines of various sizes. “Many store customers have eventually become customers who have wanted us to make hose and connector selections and their maintenance plans. When they first picked up spare parts from the store itself, nowadays they have outsourced that responsibility to us. Maybe it speaks to the expertise they have received from us over the years”, says Toni.
Customer confidence is also reflected in the fact that Mittaletku's phone may ring from the customer 's sea sailing engine room, where urgent consultation assistance is needed to resolve the current situation. And every time a customer problem is resolved.

Although digitalization is changing the way the company operates, Measurement Hose will continue to be a Porvoo-based expert company for hoses and fittings for customers in all channels. There is a growing demand for expertise.
